This tour brings you into the impressing nature few km’s from Kangerlussuaq. From the top of the mountain Sugar Loaf there is a magnificent view to the Ice Cap. Our next stop is the nearby waterfall with fast running melting water fro the Ice Cap to the fiord.

The midnight sun gives the icebergs a unique play of colours, that people returns to experience again and again. Sailing during the night with the sun still shining is a fantastic and unusual experience. Remember to bring warm clothes to this excursion.

The hostel will be refurbished for the season of summer 2008. There will be 6 rooms with 2 bunk beds in each and a minor kitchen and common living room. The hostel is placed no more than 1 km from the harbour.
Bath and dry closet are common.
All beds are made with linen, sheets and towel.

Guided 1-day-trip - incl dog sledding, 1½ hour
This trip start out 9 am from "Kongebroen". From here you go on a short boat trip to the other site of the harbour, from where the hike to the Lyngmark Glacier starts out. A guide will show you the way and makes sure, that every body are safe at the track. When you reach the huts at the top lunch will be served. During the afternoon the sledge rides take place - each of them with a duration of 1½ hour. After dinner, which consists of some Greenlandic food the guide will show the way down the mountain again, and the trip ends with a short boat trip back to town.
Duration: 10-12 hours, start at 9 am

Aasiaat
Aasiaat was founded in 1759 by Hans Egedes son, Niels Egede to disrupt the European, especially Dutch, whaler’s trade with the Greenlanders. In 1763 the settlement was moved 125 km north to its current location. The town was called Egedesminde.
The town is situated on an island in the southern part of Disco Bay, at the outermost part of a beautiful archipelago, “the land of a thousand islands”. Many of the islands in this area are protected, and there are fantastic opportunities to study the unique birdlife or whales; the original reason for the establishment of the town.
Even though fishing is the dominant industry, the town of Aasiaat has always been North Greenland’s centre for development with a Further Education College, Business School and school for the disabled. The town has a rich cultural history including a historic area with a museum and a community centre housing 24 paintings by the world renowned Danish artist Per Kirkeby.

We verblijven in tentjes. We worden gebracht per boot, waarschijnlijk door de broer van Mads.
Dag 21 zaterdag 2 augustus verblijf in de fjord of terugkeer naar Nuuk.

Clothing for all kinds of weather
Regardless of whether you are travelling to Greenland during the winter, the spring or the summer, we recommend that you dress according to the layer-to-layer principle. The outermost layer should be wind and waterproof, and underneath you should wear items such as synthetic fibre fur and/or wool. Even in the middle of summer, when it can be warm on land, sailing trips can be cold as the temperature of the water is only one or two degrees Celsius (33-36 degrees Fahrenheit). So bring a hat, scarf and gloves with you on a sailing trip.
During the summer it can occasionally be so warm that shorts and t-shirts are suitable, although mosquitoes can be a problem in July and August. It is important to bring a mosquito net, insect repellent and antihistamine if you are allergic to insect bites.
Bring suitable footwear
Regardless of the nature of your visit to Greenland, you will often have to travel a lot on foot, and frequently in hilly and uneven terrain. Therefore it is important to bring good, waterproof walking boots or walking shoes with a sturdy moulded sole. If it is the first time you are using this type of footwear, make sure you break the boots in before departure so as to avoid blisters.
